Veteran Comedian Jagdeep(Soorma Bhopali) Passes at 81

The sad news is continuously coming out of the Bollywood film industry. Now another sad news has come out. Famous comedian and actor of Hindi cinema Jagdeep is no longer in this world. Jagdeep breathed his last at the age of 81 on Wednesday. As soon as the news of Jagdeep’s death came to light, there was a wave of mourning in his family and Bollywood. Everyone is saddened by their loss.
Very few know that Jagdeep’s real name was Syed Ishtiaq Jaffrey. He acted in many important films in his career. He lived a variety of tenants on screen. However, the identity was given to the comic characters. Jagdeep was considered one of the finest comedians in the industry.
Jagdeep spread the magic of his acting in many popular films. Jagdeep played the role of ‘Surma Bhopli’ in Hindi cinema’s iconic film Sholay. His role in the film was not very long, but with his performance, he won hearts only in a small character and after this he became famous by the name of Surma Bhopali.
Jagdeep was born on 29 March 1939 in Datia Central Province, British India, now in Madhya Pradesh. Jagdeep’s career spans 6 decades. He started his career with Afsana as a child artist in 1951. In the 1953 film Footpath, he was named Jagdeep for the first time in the credit role. As a comedian, he made his debut with ‘Do Bigha Zameen’.
He got the right recognition from the 1972 film ‘Apna Desh’. ‘Sholay’, released in 1975 and Andaz Apna Apna in 1994, are memorable films of Jagdeep’s career. Bollywood’s finest dancer and actor is the son of Javed Jaffrey and TV show producer Naved Jaffrey Jagdeep.
